Black Harbinger

Post by Blackhearted Knight on Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:13 pm

Name: Black Harbinger

Type: Longsword (Darksword)

Range: Short

Description: Dark Harbinger is one of four Darkswords wielded by Andre. It's blade is pitch black and the guard and handle are also black. The blade is 2 1/2 feet long. The handle is six inches long.

Element: Darkness

Effects: Soul Corrupt: "Plants" Darkness inside the souls of the people it cuts. The spread is slow, but the Darkness eventually corrupts and consumes the soul if left untreated. Treatment involves a process similar to exorcism, and requires that the victim be restrained for three days while the corruption is countered. Dark Knights and Paladins are immune and this ability is unique to Darkswords.

History: This is a truly ancient sword, but it's history is astonishingly unknown. Despite it's lack of a concrete history, Dark Harbinger has the most legends surrounding it when compared to the other Darkswords, suggesting it's the most powerful of the set. One legend states that Dark Harbinger will bring about the end of the world while another states that it has complete control over it's counterparts. Despite the inconsistencies, one thing remains clear throughout all the legends: Dark Harbinger will be wielded by a master of Dark Magic, and his actions will change the world. Right now, that person seems to be Andre despite his having come across the sword in an auction of all places. Darkswords themselves are crafted from pure Darkness, and it's for this reason that they have the unique Soul Corrupt ability.

Katana as Darksword? ...Did you just pull out an FF3 reference on us?

Hm... Dark Knights, though, historically don't use Katanas. ...A Kilij would work. It's a Turkish curved Saber, with a weighted tip to increase power. But, weapon-type issues aside, let's get down to the function of the weapon.

First off, what exactly IS a Darksword? Is it just a Sword of any origin bearing the element of Darkness? Or is there something very specific about it that makes it different from other Dark-Element Swords?

Second, what, exactly, does Soul Corrupt DO? I mean, I get that it floods the victim with Darkness, but, what does that mean to the unlucky bastard you just cut?

(Also, you CAN stick a second ability on this thing.)

Issue A: I know nothing about FF3. If I do anything referencing to any other work, it's by accident.

Issue B: I really should've explained that in the history. Oops.

Issue C: Another limitation to think of. My mind is tired, though, so I'll do it in the morning.

You can go ahead and explain what a Darksword is in here.

And, yeah, I'm actually trying to enforce the weapon restrictions. Luckily, "sword" is a very broad term, allowing for cutting weapons of all sizes and shapes that are vaguely sword-like.

...Just not the Japanese ones. That's different. No worries on the wait, though, we've all got time.

Okay...

Soul Corrupt. So, it taints the sould with Darkness, consuming it. I get why, in-story, that's bad.

...But why, in-battle, is that bad? What are the negative effects that'd dampen combat ability?

And, I say it again, you can stick a second ability on this, if you like.

Again, how is this functionally different from a Dark-Elemental Sword?

Finally, the sword-type. It can be ABSOLUTELY ANY SWORD.

...As long as it's not japanese They're limited to Ninja and Samurai.

...Sorry.

Issue 1: Yes, it has no battle-affecting ability.

Issue 2: I don't really want a second ability for this sword. Otherwise, I'd have put one in by now.

Issue 3: Check the history. THAT'S where you'll find your answer.

Issue 4: Major monkey wrench . . . ! Found a way past it, but after alot of thinking.

...Huh. Alright.

As for Issue 3? ...I'm asking how it is different in-battle. That's all.
