Name: Concealing cloud bank

Appearance: Nattsu takes a deep breath, closing his eyes and concentrating for a second. He exhales slowly, a thick, deep-blue mist leaking from his mouth. The mist flows out and settles into a circular area around Nattsu, a 50 foot radius, extending to 7 feet above ground. A thick, cloying cloud bank is drawn towards the unnaturally glowing mist, creating a preternaturally thick wall of fog that is impossible to see through.

Effect: Creates a dense fog bank in a 50 foot radius from Nattsu, obscuring vision and dampening all sounds. Nattsu, through the magical energy still linked to him through the casting, can detect any movement within the cloud bank accurately. Lasts 4 posts.

Range: 50 feet from the epicenter

Magic Cost: 20 MP

Special Notes: Can only be cast in a place with ample ambient water. IE, no deserts or arctic regions.

History: The Concealing cloud bank spell was the very first spell Nattsu learned, picked up from a scroll of forbidden techniques his handler kept locked in a safe in the main building. Determined to find his mysterious savior, Nattsu decided his best course of action would be to learn spells that complimented his well developed skillset. With that in mind, Nattsu looked for any spells that would allow him to stay concealed, and track his target.

...Can we expect to see elemental variations?

Like an earth-elemental version, to make a dust cloud, or an Ice-Elemental, to summon a blizzard?


Now, if Nattsu moves, does the cloud bank move to keep him in the center? Or, can Nattsu leave the cloud bank? Or, does moving from the center cause the technique to break down?

Okay, define "vision"? Because, it's entirely possible some fiends (and even some player-characters) can see in wavelengths above the visual spectrum. IR, UV, etc.

By how much does this dampen sound?

Does it have an effect on Fire spells? Or do Fire spells affect it? (Like, light and heat can burn off a fog bank.)

And, what about Wind? Does moving air disturb this?

Elemental variations, no. Will be using this spell in some creative ways, but this will be the only such technique.

The bank stays anchored to the spot it was created in. Nattsu can leave it, yes, and no, leaving does not cause it to break down.

It obscures normal human vision. If you're using vision that goes above the normal human spectrum, that would depend entirely on the description and effects of said vision. Consider it to impede any normal vision, barring some few exceptions, such as heat vision or what have you.

It would dampen sounds by about 30%, and redirect soundwaves. Would basically make it impossible to use echolocation for anyone not used to the environment.

Heat will burn though it, yes, but not as easily as a normal fog bank. It IS, after all, magically enhanced. Light will reflect off of it and blind anyone foolish enough to use Light-based attacks within it.

Stronger winds will move it, yes, but not dissipate it. It's being anchored to what is basically pure mana, so you could blow it out of your way, but not get rid of it entirely.
