Introduction to Eremaki Eremaki400

Eremaki

Eremaki is an Oriental empire, led by an Emperor in his city who is supported by Lords from each of the prominent Houses that maintain power in the land. The culture and the people strongly resemble feudal Japan from Earth, though it is the Japan from the time of modern transition during the 1800's.

The people of Eremaki are mostly Merrow who choose to live close to the sea and the birds of the sky in their diet, with very little red meat, much like their kin in Ula-Ronat. When the Crystalborn first arrived on Artegal, they landed in Eremaki and they were accepted there as being "kami", or benevolent spirits of a sort. It set the pattern for how Eremaki dealt with the subsequent decision by the Crystalborn to stay on Artegal.

Culturally, the people of modern Eremaki are in a state of flux, with old traditions warring against new ones as they learn more about the other Nations and are influenced by outside forces. The Keepers have always been of the Imperial Bloodline, ever since the arrival of the Crystals.

Masurao, called Emperor Kakumei in international relations, is the most recent Emperor. Breaking with centuries of tradition, Masurao oversaw the dissolution of the mighty Shogunate, and, in an unexpected move, the opening of Eremaki's borders, and the modernization of her people. Some feel that he is divinely inspired to help Eremaki change to meet the changing times, others murmur that he is a madman who is destroying millennia of tradition to meet modern whims. The truth is simply that he is Emperor in Eremaki.
